HSA Qualified Medical Expenses are all the expenses that qualify for being purchased using the funds in your Health Savings Account.
It’s becoming easier to distinguish because many pharmacies (such as our local CVS & Walgreens) have these rules built into their Point Of Sale systems. In these cases it says right on your receipt which purchases are qualified. In general, all prescription drugs qualify but as of Jan 1st 2011 over the counter (OTC) drugs are not covered (unless prescribed by your Physician) with the exception of insulin.

Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements DO NOT Qualify.
* Visits to the Doctor & Tests that are not covered by your insurance.
* Hospitalization that is not covered by your insurance.
* Surgical procedures not covered by your insurance
* All Prescription Drugs
* Insulin as well as Diabetic Testing Supplies
* OTC Drugs but only with a prescription from your doctor.
* Accupuncture & Chiropractic Care
* Eye Exams, Glasses and Laser Surgery
* Hearing Tests as well as Hearing Aids
* Dental Exams, Dental Work, Orthodontics and Dentures
* Drug Abuse Treatments including Alcohol
* Long Term Care related expenses.
* Disability Related Home Improvements such as hand rails, ramps etc.
* Wheel Chairs, Walkers and other forms of mobility devices.
Your health insurance provider or HSA administrator will provide you with a complete list of goods and services that are eligible.
